6th August 1689

From the Diary of Captain Thomas Ash:

“6th [August 1689]. Major Gen. Kirk and all the army that lay at Inch, except 150 men, came to Derry; those were left to guard the island under the command of Capt. Thomas Barbour. Kirk was quartered at the Bishop’s house; he was received with much joy, the great guns were discharged around the walls and hedge firing at the Wind-mill, both by the English and our men most part of the day.”
