5th August 1689

From Richards’ Diary of the Fleet:

“Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th [August 1689]. These two days past several eyewitnesses have come hither from Enniskillen, and do assure us that there was a great slaughter of the enemy, that on our side [Williamite] we lost not fifty men. They say that the day after the battle, the country people killed many hundreds more of the enemy, who hid themselves in the woods, and also brought eight or ten Commission officers more to Enniskillen, prisoners.

The Major-General we now hear has embarked all the heavy luggage, and sent the ships with the man of war about to come to this town. He has made Capt. Barber, Governor of Inch, and has ordered all the forces to march tomorrow by the strand.”
